Services

• Provide proactive legal guidance to municipalities;
• Promote and enhance good governance systems in municipalities;
• Ensure effective and efficient communication systems and processes within the department, and in municipalities;
• Strengthen co-operative governance at municipal level;
• Improve access to government services for communities through the deployment of CDWs in all wards in Gauteng;
• Contribute towards deepening democracy and accountability;
• Assist communities to realise their developmental potential;
• Build the capacity of ward committees to ensure that they become fully functional;
• Monitor municipal performance with a special focus on the key performance areas such as Municipal finance, Service delivery, Institutional performance, LED, Cross-cutting programmes and Governance;
• Promote municipal service excellence;
• Support municipalities in mainstreaming programmes on: HIV and AIDS; youth; women and people with disabilities;
• Promote women excellence in local government;
• Facilitate and coordinate processes towards ensuring that MIDPs are aligned to provincial policies and strategies;
• Ensure the provision of an integrated, efficient and effective disaster management system;
• Ensure the accelerated provision of municipal basic services and infrastructure;
• Support and develop the capacity of municipalities to become fully functional and sustainable; and
• Ensure effective and efficient management of provincial government owned land in Gauteng.
