ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
There are five main roles of the Department.
- Monitor the development and performance of local government.
- Support local government by backing up where its capacity proves
insufficient.
- Promote capacity development in a more systematic manner, to ensure
that local is increasingly able to manage its own affairs.
- Regulate how municipalities exercise their authority.
- Intervene where local government consistently fails to adequately
perform its designated function.
